I’ve seen a significant rise in interest around mullets and I think we’re going to see a lot more of them come our way in 2019. The question is what type of person can pull off a mullet?
Well, for one, it takes a lot of confidence and you got to be okay with going real fast. There’s nothing slow about it. This haircut goes 0 to 60 in under five seconds without breaking a sweat.
When you walk into a room with a mullet, you’re saying “I’m here to do business but I also like to party.” Sometimes referred to as a “Mississippi mud flap” they also do a good job of shading your neck on long summer days in the south.
Model's story
This particular mullet is worn by my dear friend, Caleb. He and I have been friends for a long time. He’s been the guinea pig for quite a few haircuts and not surprisingly this isn’t his first mullet. Over the years he’s had short hairstyles with a fade on the side, but he’s also had longer styles, like Jack’s from Sons of Anarchy, and he’s also just grown his hair out long and braided it.
Caleb has always been involved in circles like the hard-core scene and the skating scene. Both of those tend to lend themselves to be able to pull off edgier looks. I’ve always been interested in the look you can pull off and in both of the scenes, in particular, because there’s there’s a grungy aspect and a roughness to them.
As a barber it’s always important to assess the type of person you have in the chair and the scene or sub-cult they fit into. For example, if your client walked in holding a briefcase and wearing a suit you probably wouldn’t want to give him a haircut the made him look like he was the drummer for Jesus Piece.
If you’re wondering whether the mullet could be right for you, ask yourself these questions:
If you answered “hell yeah” to these five questions I’d say the party is about to get started out back.
How to ask your Barber for this haircut
Mullets come in many different forms so before you get to the barbershop it will be best to decide how short you want it on the sides whether or not you want to see skin or not and how short you want it on top. We already know we’re gonna leave the back long but you will need to decide about how long. Are we going relatively conservative or full on NASCAR?
If you don’t want to spend much time styling it, ask your barber to take your hair pretty short on top this will give you way less to worry about and the mullet will just take care of itself.
How to style your mullet
There’s only one true way to style a mullet. Hop in the bed of a pick up truck, hit some back roads, and once you’ve hit 75 mph your mullet is going to be in perfect shape. Slap a little bit of pomade in if you want to get a bit of a greasy look and you’re all set!
Good luck out there.

Im planning going back to have it, im 60, and i remember that it was easy to keep.
This article came back again from last year this time, about having a mullet. Well I’ll be 50 yrs old this coming May of this year. I still have my mullet the misippi mudflap. I like wearing my hair like this. I like it short up front and side, longer in the back. I think my goal will be either to mid back,or longer. I haven’t decided yet, it’s still growing. It’s not a hairstyle it’s a lifestyle. So for all you men and guys out there. Your missing out . I personally think it’s the best hairstyle, haircut for guys, thanks to Billy Ray , he has the best mullet out there. Well besides Chilli Bowl Mullet Man, there in Springfield Illinois. At the moment I think he has the best I’ve seen out there, besides mine, it’s getting there.
I love having a mullet. I’m a 49 yrs old white male. I wouldn’t where my hair in any other hairstyle. It’s a part of me, it’s who I am. It’s not a hairstyle, it’s a lifestyle..
